Minneapolis, — MTM Recognition announced today that eight employees at it's Memphis, TN plant will receive special certificates from United Space Alliance (USA), one of the world's largest space operations companies and prime contractor for NASA's Space Shuttle Program.
The Mir Phase 1 Program Commemorative Certificates recognize the role of MTM employees played in ensuring the program's success. The certificates include a Shuttle-Mir program flag that was flown aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery on STS-91, the final Space Shuttle flight to Mir.
The awards will be presented by Jim Furr, USA Space Flight Awareness Manager and NASA Astronaut Rick Searfoss, at a 10:30 am celebration for MTM's 180 Memphis-based employees on April 6, at the Memphis facility7.
Astronaut Searfoss, who most recently commanded a seven-person crew on the STS-90 Neurolab mission, will discuss space travel and its impact on the world. He will reflect on his personal space travels throughout his career and will answer questions at the April 6 event. His aunt, Bev Searfoss, is an MTM customer service employee.
"The Mir Phase 1 Space Program accomplished an unprecedented partnership between the American and Russian space programs," said Jim Furr, USA Space Flight Awareness Manager.
